The Metaxa Sidecar Cocktail, my friends…
There’s this tapas bar in town that my husband and I love to go to. Actually, ALL our friends love to go there. The food is exceptional, as are the drinks. It is at this tapas bar a friend introduced me to beauty of a Sidecar. (hashtag somewhere in here)
A METAXA Sidecar, to be specific.
Metaxa Sidecar

Typically, this drink is made with cognac, an orange liqueur, and lemon juice.
But “typical” is SO OVERRATED.
What about creativity?! And what about brining the tapas bar home. While it’s fun to go out, it’s fun to stay home… whether it’s date night or girl’s night in.
For my own Metaxa Sidecar I grabbed myself a bottle of Tropicana’s Tangerine Lemonade.
Aaaaaand a bottle of Metaxa liqueur…
Badda boom, badda bing…
And now, I have created a favorite drink from a favorite tapas bar and have brought it to my own kitchen.
Whether it’s a spontaneous get-together with friends at home, or a relaxing date night at home…
It’s such a simple recipe. I like simple recipes not because I’m lazy, but because when I’m visiting with friends or on a date with my guy… I want my time to spent with the people I am trying to spend time with. Not cracking the code on some complicated recipe.
Here’s how to make it your own Metaxa Sidecar featuring Tropicana’s Tangerine Lemonade:
- 1/3 cup Tropicana Tangerine Lemonade
- 2 shots Metaxa Liqueur
- 1 shot orange liqueur (I used Triple Sec)
- Superfine sugar for rim of glass
- Optional: Luxardo cherry (I add them to anything I possibly can…)
Rim your glass with sugar. Add ice, lemonade, Mexaxa, and orange liqueur to a shaker. Shke. Pour into sugar-rimmed glass. Add a cherry or two. ENJOY!
Using unexpected ingredients (like this Tropicana flavor) makes each one of us a mixologist. Which feels really cool. And, in this case… tastes delicious. The only caution? The Tangerine Lemonade is now my son’s new favorite, so I either need to make sure I have plenty on hand… or hide it so he doesn’t drink it all before I can get my mixology on!
Have you ever had a Sidecar? How do you make yours? Do you use Metaxa or cognac?
