I started doing something with my family sometime around the beginning of spring last year…
THE FAMILY SELFIE
Some might say, “It’s not every day you get a family picture.”
And to that I say, “FALSE!”
I will disclose that I do have a pretty willing family.
But I will also disclose they are not always willing.
However, the more we do it, the more my kids become drones of compliance. They just know it’s gonna happen and the sooner we get it done, the sooner that can go back to whatever they are doing.
AND ALSO WE HAVE FUN WITH IT.
And I allow the cranky face.
But usually we get the silly faces.
Because that is who we are.
Not a serious one in the bunch.
I love that we have begun such a tradition. It is so fun to scroll through the thousands of pictures and see the fullness of the family all together. Mom is in there. Dad is in there…. the ham and the shy one.
Every valuable one.
Sometimes the kids moan, “NOT AGAIN.”
But I tell them there will be a day they will ask to look at these pictures and love that I made them do it.
But most times they are all for it. It’s just become something that we do… the family selfie.
OK, I threw in a few non-selfies too. And one of the dogs. But there are no rules… just memories to treasure.
I know. So sappy.
