Update! Contest is now closed… we have a winner – Andrea for her comment: The capture the birthday hat is a neat idea. I can see the chaos and movement now! I’ll be saving that way for my daughter’s upcoming 6th birthday party.

Congrats Andrea!!!

Friends.

May I call you Friend?

GOOD.

So glad we are on the same page!

Recently, (last Tuesday), I had the unique privilege of joining the Hershey’s Track and Field Games in Seattle.

Oh, and I was caught somewhat confident and un-affected by live television deer-in-the-headlights in a live news broadcast segment on KOMO TV.

*waits for call to co-anchor*

That beautiful blonde joining me in the interview  is Andi Wardinsky… an ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer. I’d tell you where she works (she’s kinda a big deal at Pro Sports Club), but she’s MY friend and I’m not sharing.

What?

I digress…

I’m going to be honest… before I was contacted to be involved in the event, I had never heard of the Hershey’s track and Field Games… I learned so much about the rich history and impact these games have made on young people for 35 years!

While at the meet, I got to chat with Jim George the VP of Corporate Social Responsibility for Hershey’s. You know what he told me? That the kids who move onto the national meet – their trip is covered by the Hershey Company. Every year, the top 400(ish) competitors from these local meets are treated to an expense-paid trip to Hershey, Pennsylvania not only for the national meet, but they also get to tour Hershey’s and enjoy a fun-filled several days. Four to five kids form each state are represented and including Canada.

He also told me he eats a little Hershey’s chocolate everyday. And being the man of his word that he is, he ate 2 kisses right there.

I am such a deep-digging investigational journalist.

So, the Hershey’s Track and Field Games not only provide kids (between 9-14) all over the country with an opportunity to get a taste of track and field, but there is also a competitive opportunity to move on to regionals and the impressive nationals.

With up to 4,000 field events happening across the country (and nationals aren’t until August), there is still time to find an event near you. Simply visit Find a Track Meet on their website. There is one in my community next week!

At the meet I attended last week, we had a little extra fun… In the pictures above you can see the fun we had with sack races and hopscotch… among several other games. All the activities can be found in the Hershey’s Run, Jump, and Throw Birthday Guide… And lucky us, the birthday guide is available to download for free! So, whether you have a birthday party to plan or just need some summer boredom busters… download the guide and you’ll have 7 extra keep-the-kids-busy tricks up your sleeve!

Speaking of having something up one’s sleeve – I HAVE TREAT FOR YOU!!! We (Hershey’s and me) would like to give a lucky someone somethings! How about a Hershey’s Track and Field Games goody bag with jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, water bottle, bean bags, balls and instructions to play all the games. Oh, and CHOCOLATE… a combo of Hershey’s Bliss, Hershey’s Kisses (milk and dark) and Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate. You love me, don’t you…

For a chance to win, download (it’s fast, seriously) the birthday party games guide (go here to find online link to download), look at the activities and tell me which game is YOUR favorite! Easy. Peasy!
