So let me first say… I didn’t make the wedding cake. Not by myself.
MOST of the credit goes to my girl, Annie… teen extraordinaire.
But I worked on it enough to be able to say,
I MADE MY FIRST WEDDING CAKE!
And I taste-testED A LOT of frosting.
And did LOTS of stirring.
50 pounds of cake batter doesn’t turn pink all by itself.
OK, so it wasn’t 50 pounds, but it was 3 layer 8 inch cake atop another 3 layer 10 inch cake.
Combine that much cake with butter cream frosting and fondant… and that cake walked out the door weighing in at least 20 pounds.
I’m sure of it.
Annie and I were given full creative license… built around the colors of course. And some circles.
Hence the pink BALLS…
I LOVE THE PINK BALLS.
We did learn, though that less is more when it comes to that garland. 6 more inches of that stuff and it’d be a cake for a different event… in a different country.
Or my own birthday party.
As far as design we were told the wedding colors, that the bride doesn’t like carnations, that she does like circles, and at the last minute fondant became an option.
The rest was up to us.
Hitherhencetofore… GNOMES.
Annie and I envisioned the gnomes standing gnomely atop the cake, but after no less than 15 applications of spray paint in under 15 hours… I felt their cute toxicity should stand beside the cake. Not atop.
We could not find a beardless gnome, so pretend Mrs. Gnome has no beard.
Isn’t her veil BEAUTIFUL?!
I GNOME PRONOUNCE YOU MAN AND WIFE.
A note about the fondant… I am not a fan of the stuff.
OH BUT THIS.
ANNIE MAKES HER FONDANT OUT OF MARSHMALLOWS AND POWDERED SUGAR.
*drops mic*
*walks away*
The cake was delicious. I taste-tested so much frosting my left eye started twitching.
Or was in the 15+ applications of spray paint?
Gus wanted to try the frosting too…
But I didn’t let him have any. He was so upset he wouldn’t look at me.
In any case, my adorable friends got hitched, the wedding made me cry, my husband was the hitcher of the bride and groom, I helped make my first wedding cake, I got to spend an entire day cooking and shopping and creating with a really awesome gal I never get to spend time with, AND I consumed copious amounts of buttercream frosting.
I think my eye might still be twitching and it’s been nearly 2 weeks.
Happy, merry marriage to Chuck and Trisha! I gnome you two will be very happy together.
I just gnome it.
