Breakfast, Protein and Banana Sushi, WHAT?!

Banana Sushi and a COLD glass of milk!

Last week we got to see how orange juice stacks up against milk when it comes to protein… Also, a BIG thanks to Milk for sponsoring this story and introducing me to one of my new favorite breakfast recipes!

So now that we know milk wins when it comes to getting one’s protein on… and we know how important protein is to getting a good start to the day… besides a bowl of cereal, how else can we get a power-punch of protein in our systems at breakfast?


Well, some ways we do it around here are adding milk to our smoothies…. and/or a yummy LATTE! An aside: lattes are not for the children, to be clear. I mean they COULD be, but that’s up to your own caffeinated discretion.

For my smoothies I often throw in frozen strawberries, blackberries, peaches, milk, and a little bit of agave syrup in a blender. Sometimes instead of the peaches I’ll add a banana and some peanut butter instead! For the lattes, I use my Bialetti Moka (stove top espresso maker) and then heat up my milk in a stovetop milk frother. I also usually make my whole oats oatmeal with milk instead of water. I like my oatmeal creamier, but using milk also means we get more protein in our bowl, which is something I know helps me take on the day better.

Banana sushi. Brilliant. I wish I could take credit for this one… the Banana Smash-Down Sushi is all kinds of WIN. Pair this with a glass of milk, and you are on a fast train to protein-town! PLUS – I don’t know about YOUR kids but MY kids love to eat with chop sticks, so… bananas + peanut butter + crisp, rice cereal + glass of milk = a protein-rich & fun way to start the day.

And that crispy crunch is so fun!


OR. If you are anything like me and have a ‘thing’ for peanut butter and bananas… it doesn’t matter what the time of day it is. We all know nothing washes down bananas and peanut butter like a cold glass of milk! Before you know it…
