Running: My Musical Strategy

One of the biggest motivations for me to get out and running is music.

Running (a.k.a. JOGGING) gives me the opportunity to play music I love AS LOUD AS I WANT.

It’s all about me.

Not unlike this blog.

Aaaaaaanwho…

Lately, I have taken to running a shy 3 miles near my home. PROBLEM IS… I live atop a hill…. which means the last stretch home is always UPHILL.

*eyes go wild*

I’m not talking about a slight little hill that stretches the length of a city block.

NO.

I’m talking about a half mile hill at an 11% grade… Which, means nothing to non-mathy people like me, so let me explain it this way… we have to put our truck in low gear to get good momentum up that hill.

Since I am not a truck, I do not have gears. So, I guess in a way, music is my gearing system.

So today, I am going to share with you my little gearing system. I’m braking out my little DJ Jazzy Jenny mix for my hilly route…

  1. T.H.E *The Hardest Ever by Will. I. Am. (feat: Mick Jagger and J. Lo) Go hard or go home! It’s my little motivation for not turning back before I begin.
  2. Loser by Beck. BECAUSE I AM NOT.
  3. The Distance by Cake. Since I can’t EAT cake while running, I might as well listen to Cake. RIGHT?
  4. Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand
  5. Can’t Stop Feeling by my man Franz Ferdinand… It’s a musical tribute to my toes.
  6. This is about when I hit the hill, so that calls for BOOM by P.O.D.
  7. Then I go to Guggenheim by the The Ting Tings – I use this for a rest-focused song. I can run during the chorus and recover during the verses.
  8. Then more Ting Tings as a reward for making it up the hill without dying… Hang It Up. And also I am so close to home… almost time to hang it up!
  9. And then Great DJ by The Ting Tings because there ain’t nothin’ like the rhythm of the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums… bringing a girl home.

Oh… and the promise of meat. That brings a girl home too…

meat

And now you know how long it takes me to go a shy 3 miles.

DONE!

I am ALWYAS looking for new tunes… what songs get  you fired up and throughout the valley?
