Who loves an all-female rock band?
WE DO!!!
Enter: The Mrs.… They are an all-female rock band from Austin, Texas who will take the stage at BlogHer ’14 right before Kerry Washington’s keynote address on Saturday afternoon.
12:30 on Saturday, y’all. I’m going to be there! I am hoping that all of you who are heading to BlogHer’s 10th annual conference in San Jose will be there too!
Starting an all ladies band is on my life list. In fact, it’s in the top 5 of a good-sized list!
Learning to play the drums is #4 (even in my life list, I am strategic, yo). But now I’m thinking I want to play that there keyboard. Keytar? I did take a good 12 years of piano lessons. Hmmmm…
The Mrs (comprised of drummer Andra Liemandt, lead vocalists/guitarists Mandy Prater and Jennifer Zavaleta, vocalist/keyboardist Larissa Ness, and bassist Jenny Mason) was formed because these ladies couldn’t relate to the songs of teenage heartbreak and wild nights clubbing that play on the radio.
Y’all… neither do I.
So the ladies of The Mrs. decided to band together (literally) and write music that reflect their lives… the challenge of juggling a career, marriage, motherhood and friendships, while still trying to maintain one’s own identity. “We don’t have a lot of time for self-reflection in our lives,” says The Mrs. founder Andra Liemandt. “Fostering a connection with other women is a real need we wanted to address in our songs.”
The Mrs. debut single, Enough, was written to help women see themselves with a less critical eye, and realize that they are Enough just the way they are. And from what I see scrolling through my Facebook and Twitter feed, we ladies who are done with living life on the surface are all fighting to believe despite what media tells us… that we ARE enough.
The Mrs. debut EP release, coming out this fall, tells a different story from what is currently playing on rock/pop radio, and they will be performing “Enough” at BlogHer, and showcasing their Enough viral video on Saturday July 26th at 12:30 preceding the Kerry Washington keynote.
They will also have a booth at the conference. Booth 401. Be sure to visit The Mrs. booth in the Expo Hall. Perhaps you’ll get a chance to meet some of the band members, and definitely have a chance to check out their interactive mirror experience. I watched this video of the experience and I cried. Grab a little tissue and watch. It’s something that speaks to each woman.
*This is a sponsored post. All opinion and impression are my own. I am excited to share the experience on Saturday afternoon, and hope to see many of you there.
