Did you know 1 in 5 children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food?
But what can you or I to help feed hungry children?
Have you heard of the Hunger Is program at Safeway? It’s a program where Safeway helps feed hungry children through customer donations and portion of select purchases.
I have never not had enough food. My children have never had to worry about whether or not they will be able to eat before school. Or after.
But I am a mom and reading the statistics about child hunger… 3 out of 5 K-8 public school teachers report regularly seeing students coming to school hungry.
This breaks my heart. As a mom, this REALLY breaks my heart. Children should not go hungry.
No one should go hungry. But especially children…
Through the Hunger Is program at area Safeway stores, they are providing a way for us to be part of the solution.
*Purchase of items in the month of September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million. So look for tags on participating items in store!
I was glad to see Campbell’s soup was one of the items. I had to pick some up for dinner… soup and grilled cheese!
OR… you can always donate at the register.
Personally, that is my favorite way to do it. It is SUPER easy. When I use my debit or credit card, the machine give me the option to tack on a donation… which simply gets added to my total.
Look, I’m not trying to be lazy… sometimes it feels like doing good for others has to take extra effort. The thing is, when there are simple opportunities to help, it saves time and resource to be able to give in other ways too.
So be sure that when you swing by your local Safeway to grab some milk, eggs, broccoli, or ice cream… look for tags on participating items in the store or donate at the register! The Hunger Is program ends at the end of this month – September!
