Our family took on a new adoptee back in December.
No, not a puppy (that was just a few weeks ago!)… In December we adopted A COMPUTER!
It is WAY easier to potty train a computer than a puppy.
I am a Windows Champion and part of that role includes some cuddle time with the Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook.
Being a mostly Apple-product family… I felt it was a big step to launch into a whole different platform. I was nervous… what if we didn’t get along? … Do I really want to learn something new?
But being a tech-type family, I felt it was a smart move to open our family up to the Windows world. Our kids are exposed to so much technology, and I like the idea of providing them a opportunity to expand their platform experience and knowledge.
And let me tell you, they have been SUPER helpful to ME as I have explored this new computer. Kids are amazing.
My husband was slow to warm up to the idea. He is arguably the most Apple-ish one can be without actually becoming a Mac product. Imagine my surprise just weeks ago when my husband was all, “I think this thing is actually really cool. Like, REALLY COOL.”
::dead silence in the universe::
I said, “Dude. Can I tell the internets you said that?”
It’s official. We are smitten.
Here are our 8 reasons for smitten-ness:
#1 – It’s a laptop AND ALSO A TOUCHSCREEN.
I’m serious. This is a computer… not a tablet.. not a phone… A COMPUTER WITH A STINKING TOUCHSCREEN.
I feel like Jane Jetson.
#2 – It’s mega-light. Am I holding a magazine or a laptop??? 2.86 pounds. A full cup of coffee doesn’t even weigh that little!
Do you see that? That’s how thick it is next to my MOUSEPAD. At .47″ thick… you could practically shave with it’s razor-slim physique.
Practically. Not literally…
#3 – Light-up keys. Did you just drool… ILLUMINATED KEYS MAKE ME CRAZY HAPPY.
#4 – Windows 8 is on there. Only the newest, hottest technology for this hot little number.
#5 – It lays flat. FLAT. I can barely even lay flat anymore, and I’m a HUMAN!
When I first got the machine, I thought the laying-flat thing was COOL, but didn’t understand how that fact was actually USEFUL.
Enter: children, touchscreen, and apps… Take, for example, the FreshPaint app…
#6 – It’s pretty. I like pretty things. So sue me!
#7 – My kids love it (see also #5). Part tablet, part computer , aaaand sturdy. All 3 of my not-so-gentle kids have used and mastered this machine. They have learned to navigate and use Windows 8, and we have merely tapped into the potential of this mighty little machine. Oh, and having another tool for watching Netflix doesn’t hurt either.
#8 – I just started homeschooling my 8 year old and one of the first things I did was look for apps to for Lucy…. and me. Again, part computer, part tablet… the Acer Aspire 7 Ultrabook has proven to be a valuable tool for our new adventure too… apps for reading and math and art and beyond. What a wonderful day and age we live in. Homeschooling or not, there are SO many awesome app choices with an educational focus. And lots of other apps too. For time killing, consuming news, social media, or even for the creative beast within.
Have you heard about this machine before? What kind-of computer do you use? Do you feel your kids are more tech savvy with new technology than you? I feel if I don’t keep up and push myself, mine will be very, very soon…
*I am Windows Champion. I have been given the Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook to review for a year. I am not being compensated for this review. All impressions and experience with this product are my own.
