Spring Beauty: Get That Smile On!

by | Mar 30, 2016 | Beauty, Sponsored

Smiles are important.

Don’t you think?

Jimmy Fallon once said, “Everyone looks better when they smile.”

And Robin Williams said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’

Let’s talk about smiling and SPRING BEAUTY, friends.

*Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Invisalign. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This Ted Talk by Ron Gutman: The Hidden Power of Smiling talks about the science behind the power of the SMILE. Since watching this Ted Talk, my belief in the importance and power of smiling has only strengthened.

In fact… I’ve done some scientific *ahem* research myself… and I have found I genuinely like MY OWN SELF better when I flash a full smile.

Here’s some visual research (a.k.a. SELFIES)…

The sassy, but not angry face…

Not smiling

It’s fine. Not offensive, but it doesn’t evoke a smile. It makes me think somebody must be be exceeding the, “No conversations longer than 2 minutes while on the shuttle bus” rule.

The kinda-smile-but-not-really-because-I’m-so-serious-but-I’m-not-serious-at-all face.

Not smiling

It’s fine. But does it make you want to smile? Or does it make you wonder what I’m hiding? It makes me wonder what I am hiding… and I am hiding the stuff that is behind me in that picture… a.k.a. CLUTTER.

And then there’s the duck face.

(I can’t find an example of me doing the Duck Face that I am willing to share. Just say NO to DUCK FACE.)

And no matter how thoughtful or trendy I try to look… no selfie I take says better things than when I just let my smile live it’s best life…

This is me in Iceland. See how being cold doesn’t even matter when you are wearing smile?

Ron Gutman in that Ted Talk I linked to above stated British researchers found, “One smile can generate the same level of brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of chocolate.”

Like, WHOA.

In short: Not only is smiling good for others, but it is good for YOU… the SMILER. In fact your OWN smile is better for your brain than even seeing someone else smile! But of course if you smile then you will likely make someone else smile and their own smile will make THEM feel good, and… and it’s just this awesome circle of smiling and getting brains to trigger all the good juices.

Plus, it’s Spring, so how can one NOT smile… the flowers are blooming and the clouds are parting!

Of course, Buddy the Elf didn’t need scientific research or Spring to motivate him…

However… what if you don’t feel so confident about your smile?

Hello, Invisalign!

Have you heard of Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of nearly invisible, removable “aligners” that are used to gradually straighten teeth without metal or wires. The system can correct a broad range of cases such as: overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, open bite, crossbite, overbite and underbite.

Of course, every patient’s needs are different but in most cases… Invisalign is comparable in cost to traditional braces. Furthermore, most dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment and affordable financing options are often available.

Another benefit to the Invisalign system is the clear aligners provide a discreet option for those looking to straighten their teeth without the hassle or embarrassment of traditional wire and bracket braces.

So, basically, Invisalign wearers can start practicing their perfect smile right away!

They make it so easy to get rolling!

One of the best things I did when it comes to taking care of me was to seek help straightening my own teeth (I did this as an adult – 7 years of smiling freedom!). Though my crooked teeth didn’t cause me to not smile altogether, I was not proud of my teeth, nor my smile. If I’m being honest, I was a bit embarrassed. One of my front teeth had been slowing creeping in front of the other and it was definitely something I was very aware of. I smiled less and/or with decisive control.

The words “decisive control” and smile are not well-paired.

But nowadays, it just feels nice to feel confident about my smile and not think about how big to smile… or not smile at all.

It’s spring, y’all. The buds shouldn’t be the only thing blooming…. SMILE!
