Before I write anything, I just want to point out I love sparkly things.
But you knew that.
Eeeeven when it comes to things I drink. I love sparkling water, and I love sparkling wine!
Speaking of… Freixenet Sparkling Wine
{Pronounced “fresh-eh-net”}
As part of this story, Freixenet (the Black Bottle Bubble!) asked me to share suggestions for food pairings… and I will, but I also want to mention -I don’t need to pair sparkling wine with anything! Sparkling wine is my heart-beverage!
*fist bumps her bottle of Freixenet*
However, I did pair my Freixenet with a very special meal… Thanksgiving dinner.
We had 20 people for Thanksgiving dinner. We decided to serve-it-up buffet style.
With holiday parties and a big Christmas dinner coming up, I am not left wondering what beverage I can bring to share!
We served turkey and stuffing and ham and cranberries and mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole and… eventually pie!
I was so cooked and cleaned out, I didn’t have it in me make my favorite sparkling wine-based drink… The French 75.
An ounce of gin, a tsp of simple syrup, a tablespoon of lemon juice, a maraschino cherry… BAM.
Use vodka instead of gin & you have a French 76. Use bourbon instead of gin & you have yourself and bubbles and bourbon.
Speaking of bubbles… Check out this link to find the bubbles near YOU! Freixenet’s sparkling Mini Coopers are touring across the country. They will be popping up at retailers, restaurants, and bars, where you can enjoy samples, play games and find hidden bubbles to enter for a chance to win a two year lease on a brand new MINI Cooper! There are also hidden bubbles with rewards codes throughout the Freixenet website, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages. Find a bubble and visit www.fndthebubbles.com to enter the rewards code.
I LOVE MY SPARKLING WINE, PEOPLE. Straight. Mixed. With a meal. I do not discriminate.
If you like your mixed drinks a little sweeter, use Freixenet’s Cordon Negro Sweet Cuvée… Not so-sweet? Mix with Cordon Negro Brut. Either work perfectly.
But don’t skip the cherry.
I tend to lean towards to sweet side, but not too sweet. I don’t particular care for dessert wines.
I enjoyed Freixenet’s Cordon Negro Sweet Cuvée with my Thanksgiving meal. I read that they say it’s good with desserts, but I liked how the light sweetness and the bubbles contrasted the savory turkey and stuffing. SO. GOOD.
You know what? I think this would also be yummy at brunch! Or the parmesan, herb, and chestnut crusted chicken I made for dinner not too long ago!
*adds that to menu for dinner next week*
I am still a beginner when it comes to wine tasting but for those who are advanced — Freixenet Cordon Negro is a blended wine consisting of 3 traditional but little known Spanish varietals – Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada. Freixenet is widely available nationwide in restaurants, wine stores and grocery stores as common as Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Publix… at a price point I can swallow. My Black Bottle Bubble bottles land at a budget satisfying $12.
Who says the holidays are the only time for bubbles? Make it your resolution to sparkle 365 days of the year with Freixenet cavas. Our sparkling wines come in a variety of different styles to suit any moment or mood. Cordon Negro Brut, our classic Black Bottle Bubbly, is great as an aperitif before a night out on the town or at home with takeout pizza. Our brand new Cordon Negro Sweet Cuvee is the perfect match for brunch favorites like pancakes and eggs benedict. Visit FreixenetUSA.com for more information about where to buy Freixenet sparkling wines and learn how you could win a 2-year lease on a new 2013 MINI Cooper.
