A Quick Note About Forgetfulness and Hiding/Finding the Chocolate Chip Cookies

by | Jan 7, 2013 | Life | 4 comments

This is just a quick little note about forgetfulness.

MINE, specifically.

I just think it’s funny.

Not funny in a ::HAHAHA:: sort of way, but funny in a ::tilts head:: sort of way.

WHY DO I FORGET THE NAME OF THE PERSON I WAS INTRODUCED TO SECONDS EARLIER, HOWEVER…. I DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE COOKIES I BAKED AND ASKED LUCY TO HIDE FROM ME HOURS BEFORE?

HUH?

Huh?

I can set my alarm to remind me to make a phone call, but if I do not make the call THAT VERY MOMENT… I will FORGET.

If I do not text a person back the moment I am texted – it’s as if Passing of Time acts as an amazing vanishing spray for my mind.

And then there’s cookies and my will power.

I have none.

Will power… and apparently nor will I have cookies.

Except for the ones in my belly.

///

So recently… I made cookies for the kids. I asked Lucy to put them in a container and hide it so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat the cookies.

And Lucy did a pretty good job hiding the container. It took me a few minutes, but I found the cookies.

I don’t know if she hid them so well out of obedience or out of fear.

Fear that she would come home after school and find no cookies.

Except for the ones in my belly.

But my point… hidden or not hidden…

I CAN’T FORGET ABOUT THE COOKIES.

If I meet you at a party, it is 99.9999999% possible I will forget your name.

And you know what? The cookies are FINE.

Not gross. Not amazing. Absolutely average.

The chocolate chip cookie you see here is an average tasting chocolate chip cookie.

This is not an unforgettable cookie.

This is not a cookie you bring to a party that will make you popular.

Yet, I remembered the cookies, looked for the cookies, and ate 2 of them.

In my defense, I could have eaten all six.

Though there are still a few hours before the kids get home, so….

I don’t really have a conclusion. I am just as confused about the state of my memory as when I started this post.

I do know one thing, however… I need Lucy to find a better hiding spot.
